Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
How many times have we heard this phrase and still decided to run out of the door with half a slice of toast in our mouths?
When it comes to starting our day in a healthy and positive manner, eating a great meal is important for us and it will allow us to get the nutrition we need to fuel us for the day ahead. Today we are taking a little look at some simple recipes which you can try this week to make your breakfast stand out.
A fresh brew
As well as eating a great meal first thing in the morning, it is always great for us to be able to have a nice warm coffee before we start the day. Coffee is a great drink for giving us a burst of energy and it is the ideal option to pair with your breakfast foods. If you want to know how to make coffee without coffee maker, it couldn’t be simpler and you can use instant coffee with a varying volume of water and milk depending if you prefer an americano, a latte or something different.
Cold pressed coffee
If the summer sun has got you unenthusiastic about your hot drink, it can be a good idea for you to brew a cold drink the night before. All you need to do for this is brew a coffee as you normally would, and then pop it into a flask or mug and leave it in the fridge until the morning. This couldn’t be easier and it will allow you to enjoy cold pressed coffee each morning.
One of the best meals you can have for a busy morning is overnight oats. This simple meal can offer you a huge dose of protein and healthy carbs to fuel you for the day and it is certainly an amazing option for any work day.
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ¾ cup milk (your choice)
- 3 tbsp honey
- ½ cup fruit ( berries, apples, banana etc)
To make overnight oats all you need to do is take a jar or sealable container and add all of your ingredients to the container. Make sure to mix well and leave in the fridge overnight to rest. When you wake up in the morning you can simply tuck in and enjoy your meal!
5 minute porridge
If you are looking for a hot meal within minutes which will satisfy your cravings for the day, this easy porridge is ideal for you. This recipe uses the same ingredients as the overnight oats, and instead of using a bowl you will be using the microwave.
To make this meal simply add the oats and milk to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for up to 5 minutes or until the consistency is right for you. Once you have done this you can add the honey and fruit and enjoy a delicious hot meal.
Granola and yogurt
Granola, yogurt and fruit is a winning combination for any breakfast and it couldn’t be easier to make. Let’s dive right in and make our own granola.
- 1 cup rolled oats
- ½ cup mixed nuts (chopped)
- ½ cup raisins
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl and make sure it is all well combined. Grease a baking sheet and spread the mixture onto the surface. Bake at 180C for around 15 minutes and toss, bake for a further 10 minutes and then cool and store in an airtight jar. Pour over yogurt and blueberries for a yummy breakfast for any day of the week.
Bacon, egg and spinach
For those of you who like to have a larger meal for your breakfast, this breakfast of champions will provide you with a healthy dose of protein, some carbs, and all of the healthy fat you need to start the day.
- 2 rashers thick bacon
- 1 egg
- 100 g spinach
- ½ avocado
- 50g feta cheese, crushed
- 1 slice whole grain toast
- ½ clove garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper
Start off by cooking your bacon under the grill. You can cook your egg whichever way you prefer for example poached, fried or scrambled. Wilt down your spinach with garlic, salt and pepper. Assemble your meal: spread avocado slices over your toast, top with spinach, an egg, bacon, and feta cheese. Enjoy on any day of the year for a big breakfast feast.
Beans on toast – levelled up
When it comes to simple breakfast ideas there is nothing more simple than beans on toast. Beans on toast might not be the most exciting meal of the day, but with our twist it will be amazing. To create amazing beans on toast, here are your ingredients.
Ingredients ( for 2 people) :
- 1 can baked beans
- 4 slices seeded bread
- Butter ( for toast)
- ½ cup cheddar, shredded
- 1 vine of tomatoes
- Salt and pepper
For this meal, start off by taking your vine tomatoes and grilling with some oil, salt and pepper for 15 minutes or so. In the meantime, toast your bread, heat up the beans and assemble your beans on toast on the plate. Take out the tomatoes and lay over your toast, and sprinkle the whole thing with cheddar cheese. It is a super simple meal but one which is amazing all the same.
Bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato. This sandwich is a great choice for the morning and it is super easy to make.
- Seeded bread
- ½ Mashed avocado
- 2 rashers of bacon
- 2 slices beef tomato
- 2 romaine lettuce leaves
This is the easiest meal on the list, and we all know how to assemble a sandwich. Add the butter, mashed avocado, lettuce, tomato and top with bacon for a yummy and filling meal to start your day the right way. For extra structure, you can toast your bread lightly before assembling.
