Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’

Marc and I had a really fun adventure over the Holidays. We drove to Georgia to spend Christmas at my sister’s house, which was wonderful as always. I was in full on Auntie mode playing with my nieces and watching new Netflix shows with my teenage nephews. They all live far away, so I was loving every second of getting to spend time with them. Then we went on to drive to Disney for a few days. It is truly our happy place and we wanted to spend NYE there. When we arrived, we went right to dinner at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’. It’s a fairly new restaurant in the Disney Springs area famous for its down home southern food and moonshine. We loved every bite and I am going to take you through our meal!

We started the meal with dangerously good apple pie a la mode cocktails. The base was an amazing apple pie flavored moonshine with vanilla vodka, cinnamon, and other yummy things. I think it is one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had on property.
Then we ordered the church lady deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes for our appetizers. So I don’t even like deviled eggs, but I decided to be brave and try one of these. Um, they were so delicious! They weren’t rubbery at all, which is what I usually don’t like about them. The filling was incredible. The fried green tomatoes were also so yummy with shaved ham on top and a creamy, zesty rémoulade sauce.
I ordered the appetizer thigh high chicken and biscuit sandwiches for my entrée and I was not disappointed. The biscuits were pillowy perfection and the chicken was so juicy. The chicken also included a coating of spicy honey and a topping of house made pickles, which just made the sandwiches.
Marc ordered the classic chicken platter with mashed potatoes smothered in gravy. He absolutely loved it! If there was anything bad to say, it has to be that the chicken was not as crispy as he hoped for. The flavor and juiciness were all there though. I had a scoop of his potatoes and they were so fluffy.
The hummingbird cake was the best part of the whole meal though. It was huge and we split it. Let me tell you, this cake was sent right from heaven. I never had hummingbird cake before and I can’t believe I’ve gone 36 years without it. It’s a classic southern cake with banana, pineapple, nuts and spices layered with a gorgeous frosting.

Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ was definitely a wonderful way to start our Disney vacation. Not only was the food so comforting, but the server we had was so knowledgeable about the menu. She explained where everything was sourced from as she brought it to the table. If you find yourself in Disney Springs, it is usually a pretty easy reservation to get because it is a big place, or you could always just hang out at the bar. Hope you love it as much as we did! xoxo
