The Jersey Shore

The Jersey Shore is my childhood. I grew up right across the bridge from the beach in Toms River so my summers were spent in the sun and surf. The memories are endless! My mom would take us nearly every day if the weather was good enough. I can still see her packing the cooler and filling the trunk with our endless amounts of beach toys. If my dad was off from work he would build sand castles while we pretended to be helpful. My big sister started driving at 17 when I was only 6. It was always a huge treat when she would take my little brother and me to Stewart’s Root Beer for a drive in meal before fun at the beach.

I love heading to the Jersey Shore first thing in the morning. It is so calm, peaceful and stunning!

As the years went on and my family started to spread out, the highlight of my summer has become when all four of us siblings and our families converge on the Jersey Shore. It happens every year sometime in July and I live for it. Now the next generation is getting the same experience with my older siblings bringing their spouses and children to the beach. My big sister has two sons and a daughter, and my big brother has a daughter. I could not adore them more.

My nieces are inseparable cousins when they get together. It is amazing to see. I was not allowed to post any photo of my teenage nephew. It is a truth universally known among teenage boys that having pictures posted by your silly Aunt is the utmost in uncool.

The nice days are spent on the beach. Rainy days are for staying in playing card games or heading to the boardwalk for some fun arcade time. There is always a lot of good-natured ribbing and even more laughs. This time marked the first time the four siblings and our spouses went out without the kids. They got to stay back and hang out with the grandparents! It was such a fun catch up session. Marc and I got back home last night and I miss the Jersey Shore already. I’m sure I’ll be back before the end of summer and I can’t wait. Until next time! xoxo
