Summer in the City

Hubby and I had a rare day off together a few weeks ago, so we decided to make the most of it! We hopped on the train to NYC to go have a food adventure in the city. I love that we are only minutes from the train and can get to the city in just over an hour without having to drive there. Our destination was the lower east side, where the food scene is taking off in a big way.

Our first stop in the city was Baohaus. They serve the most incredible little steamed buns full of delights. We had the pork belly and fried chicken Baos and loved every bite. It was the type of place we would not have even noticed if we just walked by. Luckily one of my culinary heroes Anthony Bourdain clued viewers in on his show The Layover!

Selfie alert! Our second stop was our favorite pizza in the city. I don't say that lightly since there is a whole lot of great pizza to choose from. Artichoke Pizza is so unique though. It is basically creamy artichoke dip and cheese baked onto an amazing crust. I live for it!

They have several locations around the city now so even if you’re not in the lower east side you can check them out here!
My hubby sure is cute. On a hot summer day in the city there was no question that we had to get ice cream on our final stop. In the lower east side, that meant we had to stop at the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop. This was another tip off from the wonderful Anthony Bourdain. There was so much yumminess to choose from, but we had to go with the Salty Pimp. It was vanilla ice cream with dulce de leche and sea salt dipped in chocolate. It was the most glorious ice cream cone I've ever had in my life. There are lots of locations now and a food truck to stalk. Get all of the info here!

I loved having the day off together and going on that delicious food adventure in the city. We wandered around the lower east side, talked and had amazing food while making some great memories. I was actually pretty sad we had to leave on the train ride home. Hope you all check out the yumminess if you get to NYC and have had a great weekend! xoxo
