Disneyland With My Niece

My husband and I have traveled to Disney World and on Disney Cruises many times throughout our relationship. It was where we went on our first vacation together, where he proposed to me, and where we have celebrated our wedding anniversaries. It is so special to us. We had never gone to Disneyland together though. Marc went once on his own years ago while he was at a conference nearby. This year his conference was once again in Anaheim so we took the opportunity to see where all of the magic began. The best part was that we got to take our wonderful niece Sofia with us! She, my brother and my sister in law met up with us in Anaheim not long after we arrived. We were able to have a few days of fantastic family time before the conference started. Marc and I took our niece to the parks for the whole day to spend some quality time and make indelible memories. Let me tell you, there was something so magical and special about taking a child for her first trip to Disneyland. Sofia was wide eyed and so excited from the moment we stepped onto the monorail to go into the park!

She has recently discovered Star Wars, so all of the new Star Wars attractions in Disneyland were a must. She couldn't contain the giggles as Kylo Ren tried to bring her to the dark side.

The best was her reaction to the Star Tours ride. She was squealing with delight the entire time and declared it her favorite ride of the day!
We also made sure to take her on all of the classics. Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion were so fun! It was new for me and Marc too since these rides were slightly different here from their Floridian counterparts. Pirates was Sofia's next favorite ride. She kept talking all day about how fun it was to go down the drop in the boat!

We took lots of little breaks too because it was a balmy 93 degrees that day. Sofia and Marc each had their first ever corn dogs! She had us cracking up with her explanation of how she feels when she is hungry. To quote her:

She had us cracking up with her explanation of how she feels when she is really hungry. To quote her: “It feels like nothing in the world is fair and everything is against me”. Deep words from a 9 year old and so true! She gets hangry like me.

Bringing our niece to Disneyland was like looking at it through completely fresh, new eyes for us. Watching Sofia’s awe and excitement made us so ridiculously happy. Every exclamation of “this is so awesome!!” (and there were many) made our hearts swell. Marc and I just love her to pieces and spending that time with her was precious. It was a day that we, and hopefully she, will never ever forget.

We had to get a photo in front of Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disneyland too!

    1. It is a much smaller scale but they still offer a whole lot! Disneyland is very much like Magic Kingdom, while California Adventure is like Epcot and Hollywood studios condensed into one park. The rides all were longer though to make up for not having quite as many. Cars land and the Star Wars area are new and not even in Disney World yet so that was fun!! xoxo
